The academic seminar on the great Tibetan scholar Muge Samten Gyatso began on August 21 in Zungchu county and was mainly organized by the Zungchu County Party Committee and the County people’s government. It lasted for three days, from the 21st to 23rd. The representative of the Buddhist Association of China offered auspicious words for the seminar. Li Weiguo from the Standing Committee of the autonomous prefecture and United Front Work Deparment also gave a speech, as did Tatsa Tulku, the representative of Muge Samten’s students, who is the vice-chairman of Ngawa prefecture Political Consultative Conference, along with the 11th Panchen Lama's senior tutor Geshe Sherab Gyatso. All those in attendance watched a documentary on Muge Samten Gyatso.
About one hundred people including leaders from the central authorities, the province, the prefecture, professors and scholars, specialists from universities and academic institutions, lamas and tulkus from the Buddhist academies and so on attended the seminar. Professor Lupangya from the School of Tibetan Studies of Qinghai Nationalities University summarized the accomplishments of Muge Samten Gyatso, while the well-known scholar from the editorial department of Drangcha, Dawa Lodros, gave a presentation on Mugu Samten Gyatso’s poems. The seminar featured 18 important papers concerning Muge Samten Gyatso.
During this three-day seminar, attendants also shared remarks about Muge Samten Gyatso and visited the exhibition hall and his birthplace, the Red Memorial, and the ancient city wall of Zungchu.
